Newquay

We spent two nights in Newquay (New-key) while we traveled around in the nearby area. It turns out that Newquay is the Huntington Beach of England... this is my unofficial proclamation, of course. BUT it IS the surfing capital of England, and it looks like HB in many ways! So there you go.

We stayed at a "full of character" old hotel, the Hotel Victoria. It was so lovely and grand! Both days we ate breakfast and dinner in the big ballroom with chandeliers. The service was slow, but eh. They also had a pool and hot tub, both with ocean views. And, scroll down to see the view from our room. How did we deserve this?

The night we got there, we spent a couple hours playing on the beach because it was just too gorgeous to take in. Newquay, you cheeky little gem.

Oh yeah, and we had a wardrobe in our room, soo....... we tried to find Narnia because #OBVI.

Polperro

On Wednesday, we loaded on a coach at 6:45 am and began our 5 hour drive to Southern England. Our first destination was a gorgeous fishing village called Polperro. We had a few hours to walk through the village and marvel at the little white houses and shops squeezed in every nook and cranny on either side of the cobblestone streets. The harbor was full of boats, and we hiked up to some cliffs over-looking the ocean. Then we headed back to get some lunch: Cornish pasties, Cornish ice cream, and then a fruit scone with Cornish clotted cream and jam. When in Cornwall! I loved it all. (Food and geography.)

the 39 Steps

On Monday night. we went to a play called "The 39 Steps" as a class. I had NO idea what to expect... It turns out, it is a satire on the novel of which an Alfred Hitchcock movie is based. There were literally dozens and dozens of characters in the play, all played by FOUR actors. They were constantly running around the stage, switching costumes and accents for their different characters as the show progressed. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen; I laughed for two hours straight.

At the end of the play, they shot bubble foam into the audience, and we came out of the (very old) theatre just so high on life and London. Here are some of the pics we took after the play in Piccadilly Circus.

Buckingham Palace

I finally made it down to see Buckingham Palace!! It is beautiful. I kept thinking of the royal kiss at the royal wedding on the royal balcony. haha.

We went down on the night of a V.E. day celebration so the entire mall was closed. It was fun to walk in the street and have a great view of the palace.

Oh, and the queen was there! I waved.
