This week has absolutely been a BLUR. My plans to post a short blog post each night have completely failed, so I'm using Sunday to catch up on some highlights. :)
On Monday after class, some girls from our group went down to the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. One of the many amazing blessings of London is that almost all the museums are FREE. You can just walk right through the front doors and straight to a Van Gogh painting with nothing holding you back.
SO GREAT.
Most of my time in the National Gallery was spent looking at paintings from the 1500s- 1800s, which were really interesting but unfortunately I didn't recognize a lot of it. (I have much to learn of art history). When I made my way into a room full of Monets, Van Goghs and Pisarros.... MY HEART EXPLODED. I have always loved Monet and Van Gogh since I was in elementary school.
Even though we aren't all art experts, we can all feel a connection and a power through art!
Afterwards, I met up with some people and we hurried down
to Hyde Park to see the Royal Gun Salute in honour of the royal baby! If
you are not familiar with royal gun salutes in honour of royal babies,
here's how it goes down:
1. Giant group of fancy people on horses show up in Hyde Park.
2. Said group gallops at break-neck speed across a massive field, dragging cannons.
3. Cannons are set up.
4. Cannons are fired 41 times.
5. Group of fancy people on horses gallops at mad speed back, and then trot away.
COOL, HUH? I want people to shoot cannons to honour my future children... I mean, riiiight??
If I remember right...the National Portrait Gallery is next door, I really liked that one. It has some famous portraits, like some by Warhol, but also gives you a good sense of history, I think they're organized chronologically. Add that to the list :)
